"Embleton Bay is an iconic location for landscape photography. When looking south from here one is afforded the classic view of Dunstanburgh Castle (above). Often in such places it's worth looking for a less well known perspective. Here, the smooth shoreline boulders provide an interesting photographic subject in themselves. As it was early evening in summer and it was still quite bright, I used a 10 stop neutral density filter to allow a long exposure to soften the appearance of the sea and clouds. This provided a good contrast to the well defined outlines of the shoreline boulders."
