"Winskill consists of a small area of limestone pavement high above the Ribble Valley. The terrain to the south west of the area drops away steeply downhill. At the times of year when the sun sets towards the south west, this makes the area a good spot to catch the last rays of the setting sun just before it dips below the distant horizon. I tried a number of different compositions at this location; in the end I favoured shots that showed a relatively large area of sky compared to the foreground which I think helped emphasize the open nature of the landscape, typical of the Yorkshire Dales."
