"This close-up shot of a Roadrunner was taken as it paused temporarily between its fast darting runs through the desert scrub in search of its prey. Roadrunners are terrestrial cuckoos. They eat a wide variety of prey from insects to quite large poisonous snakes such as Rattlesnakes. It has been known for a pair of Roadrunners to join forces to attack and kill a large snake. Hunting on the ground, Roadrunners can even outrun quite large lizards."
