"A variety of boats were moored along this particular Normandy shoreline. This single-masted sailing boat proved the most interesting from a photographic point of view. I positioned the camera as close to the water's surface as possible, so the hull of the craft broke the line of the horizon in the picture, a compositional ploy to exaggerate the height of the subject and make it stand out more from its surroundings."
