Travel Photograph of the Year

This photograph reached the final of the Wanderlust Travel Photograph of the Year competition 'Travel Icons' category. It was awarded a place in the awards book and appeared as an exhibition print at the 'Destinations' photographic exhibition at London's Earls Court. The Sailing Barge is a more recent third place winner in the same competition.

"The most striking and well known profile of the alpine Matterhorn is obtained when viewing the mountain from the north east, from the Swiss village of Zermatt. I walked above the valley floor where Zermatt lies, to reveal the whole of the mountain, and waited as the sun slowly set. As the sun was setting, a line of cloud behind the mountain almost seemed to coincide with the last light of the day that was striking the summit of the mountain."
